Copper and brass tubes have been used in sugar mills for many years. Compared with some other non-ferrous alloys, the common varieties of copper used for commercial tubing are of simple composition. In copper tubes, the basis metal is modified by a small addition of phosphorus and arsenic, and in brass tubes the basis alloy of copper and zinc is modified. This tubes are used in evaporators to process cane juice to high grade sugar.
